Your Body, A Work Of Art
The subject of my work is the body. Formally trained as both a figurative sculptor and plastic surgeon, I am fascinated by the cultural psychology that is manifested in our response to reading the human form. The issues of identity, representation and perception, ethnicity, individuality, and change that are shared by the seemingly disparate practices of art and plastic surgery are central to my work as sculptor and cosmetic surgeon.
In completing my plastic surgery training at the University of California Los Angeles, I continued my process of sculpturing, bringing the skills I had developed as a cosmetic surgeon-manual dexterity, meticulous attention to detail, discipline, problem-solving and anatomical knowledge - to bear on my work as both a cosmetic surgeon and sculptor through figurative sculpturing.
While the integration of figurative sculpturing and aesthetic surgery may seem unconventional at first, my patients and I find it immensely logical with each discipline suggesting a wealth of possibilities to the other, particularly concerning contemporary issues of body image, identity, and ethnicity.
